A digital twin refers to the technology of creating an identical object_(twin) in a virtual space and conducting various simulations to test and verify it.

The concept of the digital twin was first proposed in ‘Mirror Worlds,’ published by David Gelernter in 1991, and it is known that the concept was officially presented and applied to the manufacturing field by Dr. Michael Grieves_{(a professor at the University of Michigan at the time)} at the Manufacturing Engineer’s Association in 2002._{(Source: Wikipedia)}

Simulation, similar to a digital twin, also utilizes digital models to replicate various processes of a system. However, the most significant differences lie in the scale and the use of real-time data.

A virtual environment that utilizes continuously updated data gives digital twins an advantage over simulations in identifying and solving problems more effectively.
